Saturday Night Reading

One thing that always bothers me about Saturday Night Live is my constant awareness that everyone’s reading off cue cards. I understand that the show’s constantly changing sketches up until Saturday and that it’s stressful and there’s an incredible amount of work that goes into every show, but if you’re in one or two sketches, is it that hard to remember what you’re supposed to say? Or, at the very least, is it that hard to remember enough of what you’re saying so you’re not constantly looking at cue cards? Or, at the VERY least, is it that hard to not read someone else’s line off the cue cards? Apparently it’s extremely hard, because last night Jenny “I said fuck on SNL and I fuckin’ love me for that” Slate said one of Bill Hader’s lines at around the 1:45 mark. It’s hard to not read from cue cards and it’s hard to read from cue cards.

The sketch itself is a non-thing. Stay tuned until the end to witness the most uncomfortable end of a sketch ever.

Yahoo! News has this list of the decade’s best television. They mentioned 4 of the best shows ever (The Daily Show, The Shield, LOST, and Arrested Development) and then a bunch of other crap (CSI, High School Musical, etc.). I was proud of The Shield, because it never really got the kind of recognition it deserved when it was on the air (for overall quality or for creating one of the best characters ever, Shane Vendrell). Then I realized that no one would call a brief mention on Yahoo! News something to write home about, or even something to write Yahoo! News about. Maybe if you know 4 ways to tell if your spouse is thinking about cheating on you… That’s definitely something to write Yahoo! News about. Also, if you have something to say about what some heroic cat wore to the grocery store, tell Yahoo! News about that, too. They’d love to hear it.

Internet Comment culture is perpetually fascinating to me, and I will still eventually release my “Experiment In Internet Comments,” but I wanted to give you all a brief glimpse into their pathetic little world. I put up a little thing about Jurassic Park about a month ago. It’s on the front page of Cracked right now, and it brought us the following, from someone calling themself “CodySucks.”

Its almost as if Cody’s keyboard makes it so that whenever he types an endless landslide of diarrhea (shitslide) just oozes out onto the internet and instantly becomes labled as comedy. Now personally I think he is being satirical of bad comedy by posting something that is so completely foul and unfunny in every sense that it cannot possibly be taken seriously. But by posting something as wretched as this he has somehow created a masterpiece due to the fact that this is clearly a mockery of all of those internet articles that end up being sorry and dissapointing.

Six minutes later, this was posted by someone going by “Mark McDoggle.”

I think the fact that Cody’s antithesis (a.k.a. CodySucks) has made a short paragraph that contains more comedy than the entire collective works of Cody himself happens to be hilarious. That is all.

This would not be anything special, except for the fact that I can see the users’ ip addresses. What I’m getting at is that these two people are actually the SAME PERSON. More than the grammar, the spelling, and the unwarranted disgust, I think that this fact is the most telling of how these people think and how they view themselves. That is all.
